Adapted from the one-hundredth and final work in his series, Leaf SZN: Reflects culminates Dylan Bolger's extensive studies of the macaranga leaf from 2021-2024. Sprawling across the Judith Wright Arts Centre Facade, the work serves as a visual metaphor, embodying the repopulation and regenerative qualities inherent in the pioneer species, mirroring the resilience and dynamism of Country.
Rendered here, the macaranga symbolises ongoing resistance and strength of First Nations people, who continue to thrive amidst the enduring legacies of colonisation. Bolger's work serves as a powerful reminder of the irrepressible vitality and cultural resilience of Indigenous communities.
This projection was adapted from a photo taken by Joe Ruckli of a work Dylan Bolger created as Artist in Residence at Museum of Brisbane (MoB). MoB's Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. The one-hundredth edition of the Leaf SZN series can be viewed at the Museum of Brisbane until August 2025.
Dylan Bolger is a proud Maiawali, Karuwali, Pitta-Pitta, and Gomeroi artist and arts worker who combines his creativity with technical expertise to honor his culture. Through his multifaceted practice, he pushes artistic boundaries to deliver ambitious and culturally rich works.
